Soft winter wheat with high adaptability and robust genetic resistance to key spike diseases.
Description
Genetic Potential and Adaptive Capacity
"Bilotserkivchanka" is a variety of soft winter wheat developed by the Bilotserkivska Research Station. The variety is built upon the strategy of a "healthy ear," designed to minimize the need for heavy fungicide applications under intensive cultivation conditions. The core technical advantage of this variety lies in its complex genetic resistance to a wide range of pathogens.
Phytosanitary Profile and Resistance
The resistance strategy is implemented through rigorous selection of lines capable of suppressing mycelium development during early growth stages. The variety demonstrates high resilience to the following biological threats:
- Fungal infections: brown rust and Mycosphaerella leaf spot.
- Spike infections: Fusarium head blight, a critical factor for grain quality degradation.
- Root and stem rot: the variety effectively resists decay, ensuring stable plant nutrition during critical vegetation phases.
- Powdery mildew and brown leaf spot: limited primary infection due to specific leaf morphological characteristics.
Agrotechnological Performance
The vegetation period of the variety ranges from 110 to 120 days, allowing for flexible integration into crop rotation systems. A technically significant indicator is the winter hardiness, rated at 7–9 points on a nine-point scale. This range allows the crop to mitigate risks of plant density loss during extreme temperature fluctuations characteristic of Ukrainian climatic zones. This high hardiness is achieved through effective sugar accumulation in the tillering node, ensuring plant survival under harsh winter conditions.
