Description
The Capitán soft winter wheat variety represents a medium-early and medium-height type with high resistance to lodging. Plants reach a height of 85-100 cm, and the vegetation period ranges from 219 to 278 days. The ear is white, awned, cylindrical, of medium length, and dense. The mass of 1000 grains varies within 36-52 g, indicating the large-grained nature of the variety. Capitán was created using inter-variety hybridization based on the Ermak and Fedorovka varieties and belongs to the erythrospermum subgroup. The variety is characterized by high resistance to major diseases such as brown and yellow rust, moderate resistance to powdery mildew, septoria, and fusarium of the ear, as well as medium susceptibility to powdery scab. Additionally, Capitán possesses high frost hardiness and drought resistance at the level of the Don 93 standard, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. It is recommended to sow on high and medium agro-backgrounds with the best and cultivated predecessors, at a sowing rate of 4.5-5.0 million viable seeds per hectare. Capitán yields are high and stable: in competitive trials, the average yield with a maize predecessor was 7.65 t/ha, with a black fallow – 9.42 t/ha, with sunflower – 6.19 t/ha, with peas – 8.40 t/ha, with a maximum indicator of 10.1 t/ha. Baking qualities of the grain are good and excellent; the variety is included in the list of varieties of value by grain quality. It is recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus, Lower Volga regions, as well as in the Central and South-Foothill zones of Krasnodar Krai, the Republic of Adygea, and Stavropol Krai.
