Description
Kharkivskaya Metelitsa is a medium-maturing winter soft wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety with high winter hardiness and lodging resistance. This variety was included in the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for distribution in Ukraine since 2020 and is recommended for cultivation in the Forest-Steppe zone. Kharkivskaya Metelitsa belongs to the erythrospermum group and is a versatile variety, allowing its grain to be used in various agricultural production directions. The genetic yield potential of this variety is high, confirmed by seeding rates: 4.5 million germinating seeds per hectare after a previous crop and 5.5 million with non-cereal predecessors.
Studies conducted under the agroclimatic conditions of southern Ukraine's Forest-Steppe region showed that Kharkivskaya Metelitsa belongs to the group of varieties with high grain density per ear — 43 grains per ear, which is among the best indicators among domestic and foreign varieties. Additionally, the variety exhibits optimal biological traits such as ear length, number of spikelets, grains per ear, 1000-grain weight, and grain weight per ear and plant overall. These characteristics ensure high productivity and stable yields.
Developed at the Laboratory of Wheat Selection of the Institute of Plant Sciences named after V. Ya. Yuryev of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, the Kharkivskaya Metelitsa variety is the result of scientific work aimed at developing varieties adapted to Ukrainian conditions with improved productivity, disease and pest resistance, and grain quality. The patent on this variety confirms its uniqueness and significance for Ukrainian agriculture, providing farmers with a reliable and high-yielding planting material.
