Winter wheat variety "Oleksiivka," developed by the Donetsk Institute of Agro-Industrial Production (UAAS), is engineered for intensive farming. The variety features an awned architecture and a short stem (80–90 cm). This compact morphology is essential for preventing lodging under high-input conditions, ensuring stability during rapid growth phases.

Yield and grain productivity

With a vegetation period of 290–300 days, Oleksiivka optimizes the use of seasonal moisture. The focus of the breeding was on high grain weight, which directly impacts the output per hectare.

• 1000-kernel weight: 45–50 grams.
• Potential yield: 6–7 tons/ha.

The high grain weight ensures a high milling percentage, making it an economically attractive choice for commercial grain production.

Phytosanitary resistance

A key engineering feature of the Oleksiivka variety is its robust genetic resistance to the most common wheat pathogens. This built-in protection significantly reduces the necessity for fungicide applications:

• Strong resistance to Yellow and Brown rust.
• Tolerance to Septoria and Fusarium head blight.
• Resistance to Powdery mildew.

The resistance to Fusarium head blight is particularly critical for areas with humid flowering periods, as it minimizes the risk of mycotoxin contamination. This makes Oleksiivka a reliable tool for growers aiming to maintain high crop quality and profitability while minimizing chemical input costs.
