Description
The Nikolasha spring durum wheat variety is a mid-early variety with a vegetation period of 73 to 87 days, maturing 1-2 days earlier than the Krossar variety. The plant is of medium height with a semi-erect tiller and weakly filled straw. The spike is pyramidal, of medium length and density, white in color, with white awns that are longer than the spike. The grain is semi-elongated, white, and the weight of 1000 grains is from 33 to 42 grams. The waxy coating on the flag leaf blade is medium, while on the straw neck, spike, and flag leaf sheath it is very strong. Hairy growth on the upper node is absent or very weak. The variety is characterized by high yield and resistance to unfavorable conditions. The average yield in approved regions is 19.6 c/ha, which is 1.9 c/ha higher than the standard average. In the Rostov region, the yield exceeds the standard Volnodonskaya by 3.2 c/ha, reaching 19 c/ha, while the maximum yield was recorded in the Krasnodar region and amounted to 45.7 c/ha. In terms of drought resistance, the variety outperforms Volnodonskaya by up to 1 point, and it is stable against lodging at the level of standards. The protein content in the grain averages 17.5%, which ensures good pasta qualities, rated as quite satisfactory. Nikolasha possesses high resistance to diseases, making it a reliable choice for cultivation. The variety is immune to powdery bunt, highly resistant to powdery mildew, and resistant to solid bunt, brown and yellow rusts, as well as fusarium of the spike. Additionally, it is moderately resistant to stem rust and has field resistance to septoria. Recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region, including the Rostov region and the central zone of the Krasnodar region.
